Trend Master scores the trend from up to four parts (price against the fast EMA, the EMA stack, the fast EMA’s slope and the last closed higher-timeframe bar) and turns the score into five states: Strong Bull, Bull, Neutral, Bear and Strong Bear. It draws a trend cloud between a fast and a slow EMA, marks the first touch of each pullback into the cloud, shows the live score in the HUD and alerts on flips, strength changes and pullbacks.
How it works
- Profile sets the cloud EMAs: Intraday 13/34 (default), Scalping 9/21, Swing 20/50, or Custom.
- Score parts, each +1, -1 or 0:
- Price: close above the fast EMA (+1) or below (-1).
- Stack: fast EMA above the slow EMA (+1) or below (-1).
- Slope: the fast EMA’s change over 3 bars, in ATRs per bar. Above +0.05 = +1, below -0.05 = -1, otherwise flat (0).
- HTF: on the last closed higher-timeframe bar, close and fast EMA both above its slow EMA (+1), both below (-1), otherwise 0. Auto timeframe: a 1m chart uses 15m; 2m to 5m charts use 1H; 10m to 1H charts use 4H; 2H to 4H charts use daily; daily uses weekly; weekly uses monthly; above weekly the part is off.
- Score = the sum, from -4 to +4 with all parts on. The HUD shows it live on the current bar.
- State: score +3 or more = Strong Bull, +2 = Bull, -2 = Bear, -3 or less = Strong Bear, otherwise Neutral. With the default ADX filter, Strong also needs ADX (14) at or above 20; otherwise it stays Bull or Bear. If fewer parts are on, the thresholds are capped at the number of parts (Strong always needs at least one point more than a trend).
- Changes: a new state must be read on 2 closed bars in a row. A change of direction (to Bull, Bear or Neutral) also needs at least 5 bars since the last one. Upgrades and downgrades within a direction are not held back by that spacing.
- Pullbacks: in a Bull or Strong Bull state, a PB long prints on the first closed bar whose low reaches the pullback level while the close stays above the slow EMA. Levels: Loose = 0.3 ATR above the fast EMA, Normal = the fast EMA, Deep = the middle of the cloud. After a PB, the next one needs a bar whose low is at least 0.5 ATR above the pullback level (price has left the cloud). Downtrends mirror this. A new trend always starts ready for its first pullback.
What you see on the chart
- Trend cloud between the fast and slow EMA: teal in Bull, fuchsia in Bear (bolder in Strong), faint grey in Neutral. Classic theme uses green and red.
- Fast EMA in the trend colour and slow EMA in grey (can be hidden; the cloud stays).
- Flip labels: tiny BULL or STRONG BULL labels below the bar, BEAR or STRONG BEAR labels above the bar, at the bar a direction change is confirmed.
- Back to Neutral: a small grey cross (no label), above the bar when a bull trend ends and below the bar when a bear trend ends.
- Strength labels (off by default): tiny STRONG (upgrade) and WEAKER (downgrade) labels inside an existing direction.
- PB markers: small circle with “PB” below the bar (long) or above (short).
- Background tint (off by default): the trend colour, a little stronger in Strong states.
- HUD (top right):
- ZQ Trend: timeframe, profile and EMA lengths.
- Trend: the confirmed state.
- Score: the live score, for example “+3 of 4 (live)”.
- Parts: each part’s vote, for example “Price + Stack + Slope + HTF -“.
- HTF: the higher timeframe’s vote, or “Off: not above chart” / “Off (setting)”.
- ADX: value, trending or weak, and how ADX is used.
- Pullback: “Watching for a pullback”, “Taken, waiting for reset” or “No trend”.
- Next: a pending change with its count, “Forming” on the live bar, or how long the state has held.
- Watermark: faint “ZynIQ Trend”, bottom right.

Alerts
All events are decided when a bar closes: create alerts with Once per bar close.
| Alert | Fires when |
|---|---|
| ZQ Trend: flip to Bull | The state turns Bull or Strong Bull from Neutral or Bear. |
| ZQ Trend: flip to Bear | The state turns Bear or Strong Bear from Neutral or Bull. |
| ZQ Trend: back to Neutral | A trend ends and the state turns Neutral. |
| ZQ Trend: upgrade to Strong Bull / Strong Bear | Bull becomes Strong Bull, or Bear becomes Strong Bear. |
| ZQ Trend: strength downgrade | Strong Bull becomes Bull, or Strong Bear becomes Bear. |
| ZQ Trend: pullback long / short | A PB marker prints. |
For detailed messages pick Any alert() function call: state changes include the old and new state, score, ADX and both EMA values; pullbacks include the close, fast EMA, slow EMA (where the trend reading would be invalidated) and ATR, all rounded to the tick.
Set it up for your market
| Market | Timeframes | Profile | Key settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Index futures (MNQ, NQ, MES, ES) | 1m to 15m | Scalping on 1m to 3m, Intraday on 5m to 15m | HTF Auto (1H on 5m). Pullback Normal. | Without a CME real-time data subscription TradingView shows futures 10 minutes late. Electronic-hours charts include the quiet overnight session; many traders use regular-hours-only charts for the cleanest trend reads. |
| Stocks | 5m to 1H, daily | Intraday; Swing on 4H and daily | Daily chart: HTF Auto = weekly. | Regular-hours charts avoid thin pre-market bars. On daily charts expect flips to be rarer and more meaningful. |
| Forex | 5m to 4H | Intraday | Defaults; Loose pullbacks suit slow, grinding trends. | The Asian session often scores Neutral; that is accurate. |
| Crypto | 15m to 4H, daily | Intraday; Swing on 4H and daily | Defaults. | 24/7 markets; weekend trends are often thinner and flip more. |
How to use it
- Trade in the direction of the cloud; be wary of counter-trend setups from other tools.
- Prefer entries after a PB in a Bull or Strong Bull state rather than after a vertical run.
- A Strong state (bolder cloud, and a STRONG label if you turn on “Label strength changes”) means at least 3 of the 4 parts agree and, with the default ADX filter, ADX is at or above 20; a downgrade (WEAKER) is an early warning to tighten management.
- If the cloud keeps flipping, or grey crosses keep appearing, the market is choppy: stand aside or check Market Regime Master Pro.
- Use the Parts row to see what is missing when the state is only Bull or Bear (for example the higher timeframe disagrees).
Common mistakes: treating PB as a buy order (it marks where a pullback reached the cloud, nothing more); turning off the HTF part and then expecting Strong states (Strong still needs 3 points, so all three remaining parts must agree); setting Bars to confirm to 1 on 1m charts.
Pairs well with Pullback Zones Lite, Momentum Master, Market Regime Master Pro, MTF Trend Dashboard and the breakout tools.
Good to know
- States change only on closed bars and need 2 closed bars by default, so a flip shows at least 2 bars after the score turns. The score in the HUD is live and can change until the bar closes.
- The higher-timeframe part uses the last closed higher bar, so it lags by up to one higher bar (for example up to an hour on a 5m chart with a 1H HTF). That is the price of not repainting.
- A PB is only marked once per pullback; if price stays in the cloud for many bars no new PB prints until price leaves and comes back.
- Labels are capped at 300; the oldest are removed first.
- Uses one higher-timeframe request and about 10 plot slots. On free TradingView plans the number of indicators per chart is limited.
- Not financial advice and no indication of future results.
Version 3 changes
- The live trend score is shown (promised, never displayed in v2), with each part’s vote.
- Strength upgrades and downgrades work. v2 could never turn Bull into Strong Bull inside a trend; v3 upgrades and downgrades within a direction and alerts them (labels for them are optional, off by default).
- Higher timeframe no longer repaints. v2 read the live, unfinished higher-timeframe bar. v3 uses only the last closed higher-timeframe bar, picks one step up automatically (Auto) and switches the part off with a HUD note when the higher timeframe is not above the chart’s (v2’s fixed 60 sat below 4H and daily charts).
- Fast and slow lengths (promised): Custom profile with both lengths.
- Pullback sensitivity (promised): Loose, Normal or Deep, plus a reset distance.
- Pullback markers on the first touch only. v2 printed PB on every bar inside the cloud; v3 marks one PB per pullback and waits for price to move away before the next.
- The cloud no longer disappears when the EMA lines are hidden.
- ADX is a real filter now (v2 calculated it and filtered nothing): Info only, Required for Strong (default) or Required for any trend.
- ATR is used (v2 calculated it and never used it): slope threshold, pullback distances.
- State changes are decided on closed bars, held for 2 bars, and direction flips are spaced by at least 5 bars.
- Alerts for flips, back to Neutral, upgrades, downgrades and pullbacks, with detailed alert() messages. v2 had none.
