Session Master draws the Asia, London and New York sessions as boxes with their high, low and midline, read in New York time by default so they are right on every market all year. When a session ends, its high and low carry forward as dashed reference lines, and you can be alerted when a session opens or when price breaks a previous session’s high or low. Optional kill zones shade the London open and the New York morning and afternoon windows.
How it works
- Time. Every session and kill zone time is read in the time zone you choose (America/New_York by default). New York time moves with US daylight saving, so the defaults stay correct all year on futures, stocks, forex and crypto.
- Sessions. Defaults, New York time: Asia 19:00-04:00, London 03:00-11:30, New York 09:30-16:00. Each is tracked on its own:
- On its first bar a box opens; while the session runs, the box grows to the session’s high and low, the midline sits halfway between them, and labels mark the candles that made the high and the low.
- Each day’s run is separate, also on regular-hours charts where the last bar of one day is followed directly by the first bar of the next.
- Previous-session levels. When a session ends, its high and low are drawn as dashed lines from the candle that made them to the right, labelled e.g. “London high 21534.25”. By default each line runs until the same session has ended again (so a full day of later sessions can test it). Options: until the same session starts again, or a fixed number of bars (100).
- Breaks. A previous-session level is broken when a candle CLOSES beyond it (or, if you switch “Break needs a close beyond” off, when a wick goes through). The line then turns faint and dotted and the break alert fires once for that level.
- Kill zones (off by default) are shaded amber while active: London open 02:00-05:00, New York AM 08:30-11:00, New York PM 13:30-16:00 (New York time, editable).
- History. “Days to show” keeps the last N runs of each session (3 by default; 1 = today only). Older boxes, midlines and labels are removed, oldest first.
- Charts. Sessions need an intraday chart; on daily and higher they switch off and the HUD says so.
What you see on the chart
- Boxes: Asia in amber, London in teal, New York in fuchsia (Classic: blue, green, red; Custom: your colours), with the session name in the top left corner.
- Dotted line inside each box: the session midline (50% of its range).
- Small labels “Asia high”, “London low” and so on: the candles that made each session’s high and low (latest session only by default). When two overlapping sessions make their high on the same candle, one label names both (“Asia + London high”).
- Dashed lines with a name and price at the right: the previous sessions’ highs and lows. Faint and dotted = already broken. Levels within a quarter ATR of each other share one label at the right edge.
- Faint amber background over the full height of the chart: an active kill zone (the same amber as the Asia box in the ZynIQ theme, but it fills the whole chart height rather than the session’s range).
- HUD (top right by default):
- Session Master: the time zone in use.
- Now: the active session(s), or “between sessions”.
- Kill zone: the active kill zone (only when kill zones are on).
- “ range”: the range of the most recently opened active session, in price and ATR, and whether price is in its upper, middle or lower third.
- Last Asia / Last London / Last New York: the high and low of the last completed run of each session (“not yet” before the first one ends), marked “broken” once broken while its line is still extended.
- Note (amber): “sessions need an intraday chart” on daily and higher charts.
- Watermark: “ZynIQ Session Master”, bottom right by default.

Alerts
| Alert | Fires when | Frequency to choose |
|---|---|---|
| ZQ Session Master: Asia open | The first bar of the Asia session. | Once per bar (alerted at the open) |
| ZQ Session Master: London open | The first bar of the London session. | Once per bar |
| ZQ Session Master: New York open | The first bar of the New York session. | Once per bar |
| ZQ Session Master: kill zone start | The first bar of any enabled kill zone. | Once per bar |
| ZQ Session Master: previous session high broken | A candle closes above (or wicks above) a previous session’s high that is still extended. | Once per bar close |
| ZQ Session Master: previous session low broken | A candle closes below (or wicks below) a previous session’s low that is still extended. | Once per bar close |
A session open is known from the first tick of its first bar and cannot change, so “Once per bar” tells you at the open. Any alert() function call sends one message per candle close with every event on that candle and the level broken, e.g. “Broke the previous Asia high 21534.25”; with this option, session opens are reported when the first session bar closes.
Set it up for your market
| Market | Timeframes | Profile | Key settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Index futures (MNQ, NQ, MES, ES) | 1m to 15m | Defaults | New York 09:30-16:00 = cash session; kill zones NY AM/PM if you trade the open | On an ETH chart all three sessions show (Globex trades from 18:00 New York). On an RTH chart only New York has bars. Without real-time CME data TradingView shows futures delayed. |
| Stocks | 1m to 15m | Defaults | Mostly the New York session; previous New York high/low lines | Asia and London only show on an extended-hours chart (pre-market from 04:00), and even then only partly. |
| Forex | 5m to 1H | Defaults, kill zones on | All three sessions; London open kill zone | The classic use: Asia range, London breaking it, New York continuing or reversing. |
| Crypto | 5m to 1H | Defaults | All sessions; keep the New York time zone | Trades 24/7, so weekend sessions show too. Fewer days to show keeps it clean. |
How to use it
- Mark the Asia range overnight; watch whether London breaks its high or low (the break alert tells you).
- During New York, use the London and previous New York highs and lows as reference levels for breakouts, sweeps and reversals.
- Use kill zones to focus on the windows where your market is usually most active; be more careful with breakouts in quiet hours.
- Combine the session levels with structure and liquidity tools: a sweep of the Asia high followed by a break of structure is a common pattern.
Common mistakes: leaving the time zone on Exchange for futures (Chicago) and expecting New York times; judging a breakout in a dead session like one in an active session; showing many days on a 1-minute chart. Pairs well with Key Levels Master, Liquidity Master, Premium/Discount Master and VWAP Master.
Good to know
- Session boxes grow on the live candle (they show what has happened so far); break alerts are decided on closed candles.
- A session is recognised by the time of each bar. On timeframes coarser than the session boundaries (e.g. 1H bars when London starts at 03:00 but your feed’s bars start on the half hour), the box starts at the first bar inside the session.
- Previous-session lines start at the candle that made the high or low; with “Days to show” = 1, yesterday’s box is removed when today’s starts, but its lines stay until they would normally stop.
- The indicator can keep up to 300 boxes, 500 lines and 500 labels; 3 days of three sessions use a small part of that. Very large “Days to show” on long histories may hit the limits, in which case the oldest drawings disappear first.
- Your TradingView plan limits how many indicators you can run on one chart.
Version 3 changes
- Fixed: sessions were read in the symbol’s own exchange time zone with no way to change it. On MNQ (Chicago time) the “London” box sat on the US cash open, US stocks were wrong too, and crypto was an hour out in summer. v3 has a time-zone setting (default America/New_York) and New York default times, so daylight saving is handled.
- Fixed: the default times. Asia 19:00-04:00, London 03:00-11:30 and New York 09:30-16:00, all New York time and all editable. Sessions that cross midnight work.
- Fixed: high/low extensions only worked after New York and used the wrong session’s levels. Every session’s own high and low now extend after it ends, until the same session ends again (or starts again, or for a set number of bars).
- Fixed: overlapping sessions cut each other short. v2 gave one session priority; v3 tracks each session separately, so the Asia/London and London/New York overlaps both show.
- Fixed: the first bar of each box was blue (default colours). Boxes have their own colours from the first bar.
- Fixed: the midline needed the box. It is now independent.
- Fixed: on regular-hours charts one day’s session ran straight into the next (there is no bar outside the session in between). Each day’s run now starts a new box.
- New: session high and low labels (promised in the docs, missing in v2).
- New: previous-session lines labelled with name and price; a broken line turns faint and dotted.
- New: optional kill zones (London open 02:00-05:00, New York AM 08:30-11:00, New York PM 13:30-16:00).
- New: “Days to show” (1 = today only) to keep the chart clean.
- New: alerts for each session open, kill zone starts and breaks of previous session highs and lows (v2 had none).
- New: on daily and higher charts the sessions switch off with a HUD note instead of drawing nonsense.
